Following implementation of revised calibration for serum creatinine methods, use of the IDMS-traceable Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation will give a more accurate value for eGFR in adults.
This application uses the MDRD calculation that is recommended by the National Kidney Foundation. All clinical laboratories should be reporting the eGFR with every adult creatinine level. However, if you are being tested at a doctor's office or other unaccredited laboratory, you may not get this result. Answer a few questions, and the result will be accurate. One word of caution is that you must have stable kidney function in order for an eGFR to accurately reflect your overall kidney function.
